Today I am going to talk about my number one must have
makeup product: mascara. If there was only one makeup product I could have, I
would go with mascara. It just does so much for your face and eyes. So, today I
am going to share my tips and tricks, along with some do’s and don’t and some
of my favorite products.
Mascara Before or
After Eyeshadow?
When I do my mascara in the morning, it is ALWAYS after my
eye shadow and eyeliner has been completed. Some people prefer to put their eye
shadow on after because they accidently smudge mascara on their eye shadow and
then have to redo the whole thing. However, as you practice, you will find a
way to apply your mascara with minimal damage. It’s a process, and one you will
eventually master. Plus, if you do mess up, you can always apply more eyeshadow
over top to cover up the mascara. Also, eye shadow is so much easier to apply
before mascara. Applying it after can also create smudging, sometimes even
worse. I would just stick to these steps: eye shadow, eyeliner, and then
mascara. But, hey, if the other way works for you, then you do you, girl.
How Do I Prevent
Clumping?
Ah. The ever pressing question about mascara. What I do is
the wiggle method. I place the mascara wand at the base of my lashes (this step
of putting it at the base is super important if you also want to make your
lashes appear longer and your eyes bigger) and I wiggle as I slowly apply a
coat of mascara. This I do a couple times, all over my lashes. The trick is to
know when to stop. If you sit there applying more and more mascara, yes your
eyelashes are going to look clumpy. But if you wiggle the wand and not apply
too much before it’s dried, then you should be golden.
Isn’t Using
Waterproof Mascara Everyday Bad for You?
I use waterproof mascara everyday and I get this question
quite often. I don’t think that any damage is done, as long as you can get it
off without pulling your eyelashes out or rubbing your eye too hard.
Personally, what I do to get it off is use cotton pads and put some of my
Neutrogena Eye Makeup Remover on there. If you gently swipe across your eye a
couple times, the mascara, as well as any eyeliner or eyeshadow will nicely
come off. I love using waterproof mascara because first of all, it holds the
curl you create with your eyelash curler, and second, it won’t smudge. Wipe
your eye without thinking? You’re fine. Have a day where you break out crying
for no reason? (the PMS powers are strong some days :P) You are just peachy.
No No’s Regarding
Mascara
- No pumping the wand in and out of the tube. This puts
extra air in your mascara and makes it dry out faster.
- No sharing of your mascara. You don’t want any nasty eye
infections.
- No using your mascara for longer than three months. After
that, it’s just nasty and gets dried out and formaldehyde starts forming.
My Steps for Applying
1. I first curl my eyelashes with my eyelash curler. Try to
get it as close to your eyelid without pinching the skin because that HURTS if
you do. Also, don’t do it for too long. We don’t want to crimp your eyelashes,
just curl them.
2. Second, I apply my Diorshow Maximizer Lash Plumping
Serum. This stuff is magic. It lengthens your eyelashes and adds volume. Also,
over time it helps your eyelashes grow and make them fuller, which I am all
for.
3. Finally, I apply my mascara. Currently I am using
Maybelline’s Pumped Up! Mascara. I wiggle the wand, starting at the base of my
lashes and going up. This mascara together with my Dior serum makes my lashes
look perf. Seriously, I have gotten compliments on my eyelashes. :)
Favorite Mascaras
I have tried a bunch of Maybelline mascaras, but never any
high-end ones. I just don’t want to have to repurchase something so expensive
every three months, so I stick to drugstore mascaras. I love Volum’Express the
Rocket mascara and Pumped Up! Colossal Volum’Express mascara. But, I’ve found
that you really can’t go wrong with any mascara from Maybelline.
Well, I hope this post answered any questions you had about
mascara. I love mascara, but I’m still learning too. If you have any other
questions, just ask. I’ll try to answer to the best of my knowledge. :)
Thanks lovelies,
Kirsten
